It has been announced that within the Program of Works for the Strengthening of Cancun and Tulum, Sedatu and the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) will begin a new project in Tulum, the so-called Jaguar Park, which will cover an area of almost 300,000 hectares, making it the second largest reserve in the state after the Sian Ka’an Biosphere.

the main purpose is to promote the preservation of the natural and cultural wealth of the Riviera Maya, turning it into a kind of conservation sanctuary that will include the restoration of damaged areas, as well as the development of various strategies to protect endemic species such as the jaguar.

It has been announced that most of the land belonged to the government, which has donated it for integration into the program. in addition to the park, a new protected natural area of more than 250,000 hectares will be created with the possibility of being annexed to the more than 660,000 hectares of Tulum National Park, and this new reserve is expected to be the entrance to the archeological zone. In addition to Tulum, land will be rescued to expand protected areas in Uxmal, Palenque, Chichén Itzá and Calakmul.

In this way the Jaguar Park seeks to attract more visitors while raising awareness of the importance of caring for the environment in Tulum.

Projects such as the Jaguar Park and the Tulum International Airport will form a new Tulum, with greater infrastructure and awareness, which should be completed by December of this year.
